A Summer Festival Series of eight pieces presented by the Santa Fe Playhouse, dedicated to celebrating innovative, daring performances across dance, music, and theater.

At Santa Fe Playhouse, we are proud to present our 505 Alive! roster.
This season, we’re bringing you groundbreaking performances that push boundaries, challenge perspectives, and honor underrepresented communities. Check out our exciting lineup and discover how YOU can get involved:
Our 505 Alive! Lineup:
- JUNE 2 – 8, Unbound: A Performance Ritual By Dancing Earth Creations – A community-driven project honoring the legacies of Native people, particularly women and children, who were forced into slavery by Spanish colonizers.
- JUNE 9 – 15, Play. Write. Week! A week dedicated to original works in the form of staged readings.
- JULY 7 – 18, Debra Ann Byrd’s Becoming Othello: A Black Girl’s Journey – An autobiographical solo show that chronicles Byrd’s journey from her Harlem youth to playing Shakespeare’s Othello, exploring identity, race, and the transformative power of theater.
- JULY 14 – 20, (TITLE TBD) By Dancing with Fire Productions – A Native American theater and film production company focused on arts education and festivals, showcasing the vibrant narratives of Native communities.
- JULY 21 – 27, José Rivera’s A Lunar Rhapsody (Workshop) – A captivating play about a group of strangers at a Brooklyn basketball court, unknowingly manipulated by inter-dimensional beings during a lunar eclipse.

We are now accepting three additional submissions to be presented in the 505 Alive! Festival. These selected works will continue our tradition of amplifying marginalized voices and creating room for diverse, meaningful narratives. We especially encourage submissions from historically underrepresented communities.

Submission Guidelines:
What We’re Looking For
We seek innovative, risk-taking performances in theater, dance, and music that explore diverse and expansive human experiences. We are particularly looking for fully developed works that can be presented on our stage.
- Minimal Technical Requirements: Works should be adaptable to a festival format.
- Performance Materials: Submissions must include all necessary technical, creative, and performance materials, including performers, designers, and any special requirements (e.g., costumes, props, scenic elements) outside our standard rep plot. Selected works will share a rep plot and receive support from a small, dedicated festival team.
Compensation
- Presenting Fee: Selected artists will receive a fee to help cover travel and production costs.
Key Dates
- Submission Deadline: April 4, 2025
- Selection Notification: Artists will be notified by April 17, 2025
Selection Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated based on the following:
- Artistic Statement
- Feasibility for a Festival Environment
- Alignment with Our Mission
Priority will be given to works that:
- Represent New Mexican work or feature local artists.
- Push creative boundaries, explore new ideas, and take risks.
- Amplify diverse voices and perspectives.
