Oscar Wilde’s brilliantly clever comedic masterpiece, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, is a farce in which the protagonists—two young gentlemen in London—each live a double-life, creating elaborate deceptions in order to escape burdensome social obligations and maintain some balance in their life. While it was written in 1895, the timeless tensions between the upper and lower classes make this comedy as relevant and funny now as it was in the 19th century.
Vaughn Irving, Artistic Director of the Santa Fe Playhouse says, “Few comedies that have endured the test of time like The Importance of Being Earnest. The show revolves around the lies the main characters tell as they try to live a life of pleasure while maintaining an image of morality. If you know and love this classic comedy you won’t be disappointed. If you’ve never seen it, now is your chance. The all-star cast and production team for this final show of our 2018 season is sure to make The Importance of Being Earnest one of our strongest productions of the year.”
